Why do lithium-ion batteries use silicon carbon as negative electrode materials?
With the continuous improvement of energy density requirements, the graphite negative electrode material is restricted by the theoretical capacity of 372mAh/g, and the compaction density has basically reached its limit after several years of improvement.
On the basis of the continuous improvement of energy density, silicon-carbon negative electrode material has become a negative electrode material with high energy density requirements. The theoretical capacity of silicon is 4200mAh/g.
Compared with graphite negative electrode, silicon-carbon negative electrode has higher mass energy density and volume energy density. The mass energy density of lithium-ion batteries using silicon negative electrode material can be increased by more than 8%, and the volume energy density can be increased by more than 10%. Therefore, silicon negative electrode materials will have very broad application prospects.
